Self-organized spiral columns in laterally grafted rods.

چکیده
Attachment of a flexible coil on the mid-part of a rigid rod block generates T-shaped rod-coil block molecules that self-assemble into a stepped column. These layers, in turn, self-curve into a spiral column with tunable core structure in the solid state.

Heat transfer enhancement in a spiral plate heat exchanger model using continuous rods
This study presents an innovative and simple way to increase the rate of heat transfer in a spiral plate heat exchanger model. Several circular cross-section rods, as continuous vortex generators, have been inserted within the spiral plate heat exchanger in the cross-stream plane. The vortex generators are located at various azimuth angles of α=30◦, 60◦, 90◦, and 120◦ with non-dimensional diame...
متن کاملDendron-grafted sulfur-terminated phenyleneethynylene molecular rods and blue luminescence self-assembly with Au nanoparticles.
Dendron-grafted phenyleneethynylenes with alpha,omega-disulfur containing groups were newly synthesized and characterized for self-assembly with Au nanoparticles; an intense blue photoluminescence of the composite film was observed.
متن کاملDynamics of self-organized rotating spiral-coils in bacterial swarms.
Self-propelled particles (SPP) exhibit complex collective motions, mimicking autonomous behaviors that are often seen in the natural world, but essentially are generated by simple mutual interactions. Previous research on SPP systems focuses on collective behaviors of a uniform population. However, very little is known about the evolution of individual particles under the same global influence....
متن کاملSelf-assembly of 2D membranes from mixtures of hard rods and depleting polymers().
We combine simulations and experiments to elucidate the molecular forces leading to the assembly of two dimensional membrane-like structures composed of a one rod-length thick monolayer of aligned rods from an immiscible suspension of hard rods and depleting polymers. Computer simulations predict that monolayer membranes are thermodynamically stable above a critical rod aspect ratio and below a...
متن کاملGrafted Rods: A Tilting Phase Transition
A tilting phase transition is predicted for systems comprising rod like molecules which are irreversibly grafted to a flat surface, so that the non interacting rods are perpendicularly oriented. The transition is controlled by the grafting density ρ. It occurs as ρ increases as a result of the interplay between two energies. Tilt is favoured by the van-der-Waals attraction between the rods. It ...
